VDSL apartment wiring
VDSL方式 VDSL hōshiki
A building arrangement where fibre reaches a shared equipment room and existing copper telephone wiring carries the connection to each apartment.
Many Japanese VDSL apartment systems have a nominal maximum around 100 Mbps. Actual speed can be lower because of line length, wiring condition, shared capacity, Wi-Fi and congestion. A 1 Gbps fibre plan name does not make the copper section to the room 1 Gbps.
The resident normally cannot change the building's wiring method alone. Ask the manager and provider whether fibre-to-the-room conversion is planned or whether an individual fibre line can be installed with permission.
