Contract handling fee
契約事務手数料 / 事務手数料 keiyaku jimu tesūryō
A one-time fee the carrier charges for a procedure — new contract, MNP, and sometimes a plan or SIM change.
The contract handling fee (jimu tesūryō) is set by the carrier and procedure channel. As of the catalog check date, major-brand shop procedures are often ¥4,950, while online application fees range from free to ¥3,850 or more.
Do not assume that every online plan is free: ahamo and povo2.0 generally have no online application fee, while LINEMO currently lists a ¥3,850 contract handling fee. Campaign waivers may be temporary.
It is separate from the device price, from any shop down payment, and from your monthly plan fee.
