Address, Name and Contract-Holder Changes
Keep the carrier record, identity document and payment method aligned after moving, changing your legal name, transferring a line or inheriting a contract.
Five procedures often confused
| Procedimiento | Meaning | Typical requirements |
|---|---|---|
| Address change (住所変更) | Same holder moves | Update carrier contract and separate billing/shipping address. Also update residence card and payment provider. SIM/device deliveries are often non-forwardable. |
| Surname/name change (改姓・改名) | Same person's legal name changes | Provide a document connecting old and new names. Update bank/card name too or debit can fail. |
| Transfer (譲渡 / 名義変更) | A different living person becomes holder | A new identity/credit review, not a spelling edit. Both parties, IDs, consent and a fee may be required; route varies by plan. |
| Succession (承継) | Holder has died | A family member/heir submits death and relationship documents. Points, account and device balance differ from ordinary transfer. |
| User change (利用者変更) | Holder stays; actual user changes | Holder remains responsible for charges. Family/age discounts may need user proof. |
Recommended order after moving
1. Complete the legally required residence-card address update. 2. Change the carrier contract address in its account/app. 3. Change billing and delivery addresses separately where shown. 4. Update bank/card and linked electricity, fiber, gas or insurance. 5. Save confirmation.
Rakuten distinguishes contract and billing addresses and says a convenience-store slip uses the new address for the current month if changed by the 7th. DOCOMO address change is free. Delivery already in progress may require support because a SIM/device usually cannot be redirected.
Latin spelling, middle names and aliases
Match the current identity document. Do not silently drop a middle name to match a card; ask the carrier. LINEMO directs middle-name and some name changes to support/post. Rakuten permits a registered alias only when an accepted ID shows both legal and alias names.
