Supported name characters and character limit

The character set, spacing and maximum length accepted by a carrier's application system. There is no single limit shared by every carrier and channel.

Enter the identity-document name in the same order and form. Watch upper-case Roman letters, full-width or half-width characters, spaces, middle names, old-form kanji and characters that a particular backend replaces. If the form cannot hold the full name, do not invent an abbreviation; follow that carrier's published rule or apply at a shop.

One current published example is the au Online Shop instruction for foreign nationals: alphabetic names in capitals, no omission of middle names, and family name plus given name under 30 characters, entering from the beginning if the full name cannot fit. A different carrier, shop terminal, card application or linked points service can have a different limit.
