Carrier email

An email address given by a mobile carrier, such as @docomo.ne.jp, @au.com / @ezweb.ne.jp or @softbank.ne.jp.

Whether a carrier email address is included depends on the carrier, plan and mail option. Online-focused plans (ahamo, povo2.0, LINEMO) and most low-cost SIMs do not issue one.

The three major carriers offer paid address-carrying services after you leave. The price, eligible address and application deadline differ, so open the old carrier's official mail-carrying page before switching.

Some older Japanese websites and services still expect a carrier email, and messages from carrier addresses are less likely to be filtered. A free webmail address (Gmail, Outlook, etc.) is fine for most purposes and moves with you between carriers.
